Romantic Scrapbooking for Valentines Day

So...we are edging closer and closer to that special day!

You know the one day of the year where it is perfectly acceptable to express your true love and devotion to the special someone(s) in your life (yes, even your children) and it can be done as elaborately as you wish!

Yep, you can plaster the word LOVE all over your Romantic Scrapbooking Pages - and cards. You can use all of those beautiful heart images and stamps that tend to sit around all year because there is normally not a "valid enough" reason to use them!

(At least that's what happens with my stuff).

Yes, I use flowers a lot. But hearts seem like overkill sometimes. So does the word love.

But don't we all WANT to express our "heartfelt" thoughts with LOVE titles and stamps! Just because they are so beautiful?

So what better time than Valentines day.

Romantic Scrapbooking Part 2; How to Write a Love Poem

How to Write a Love Poem

For the cash-strapped, or romantically inclined, writing a sincere, well thought out love poem for your Scrapbook may be just the ticket to your loved one's heart.

It is easy to express your true feelings and thoughts in free-verse or rhyme. You don't need to be a Shelley or Browning to write a great poem. All it takes is sincerity, effort, a loving feeling...and something to write with.

1. Write a page of standard prose, as fast as you can, about how you felt the first time you saw your loved one, how you felt the first time you knew you were in love, and how you feel right now about being together. These three moments in time will create the structure of your poem.
2. Replace any weak verbs with stronger verbs and any pronouns with proper nouns. Words depicting the 5 senses work well for love poems.
3. Reread your passage and pick a metaphor to tie the three moments together. Choosing a metaphor is the most fun part so be wild with it. An opening flower is a tried and true metaphor for love, but a cloud that looks like a heart might work even better.
4. Rewrite your passage using the metaphor to describe the three moments.
5. Read your page aloud, change things that sounds "off" to you. Make notes where you feel there's a pause in the flow.
6. Write the poem, putting a line breaks where you made the notes.
7. Paste it into your Scrapbook as the cover page - or next to the photo that most inspired the poem!
   

*And if you ever get married, renew your vows or just have one of those unique opportunities together where a speech to one another is required, use the poem as your read - this will definitely pull on the heart strings.
